devotions

Slow down to process it.

“But without faith it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He rewards those who [earnestly and diligently] seek Him” Hebrews 11:6, Amplified.

When God delivered the city of Jericho into Joshua’s hands, he assumed the city of Ai would be no different. He didn’t seek God for His plan or His instructions, and was chased down the mountain by the men he and his army went in to defeat—their hearts melting like water. After the public humiliation, he cried out to God and God gave him instructions and victory.

After you accomplish one feat, are you on to the next one with no time to set apart to process what God has just done or to receive instructions from Him? I’ve done that before, constantly pursuing, attaining, launching and possessing. The secret to our success in God is in our spending the necessary time with Him to receive His wisdom and His grace. He tells us that when we diligently seek Him, we shall be rewarded. Our reward is things working just as He said it would. Our reward is God being glorified in our lives.

So let’s slow down, my sister. Do we want busy or do we want effective? Do we want constantly trying our own methods, or do we want God to be glorified? I believe we want effectiveness. We want God to be glorified in everything we set out to do by His grace.

Prayer: Yes, my Lord. I hear you loud and clear. Yes, I love being on fire for you. I love doing what you’ve called me to do, but help me to slow down and receive instructions from you. I want effectiveness, not busy. I want victory and for you to be glorified. Help me to consistently seek you and not lean to my own understanding. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
